TRI CITY ICEHAWKS NESTING AT
MIDLAND CIVIC ARENA FOR 2008-2009 SEASON
May 16, 2008 – The City of Midland Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce that the Midland Civic Arena has been named home of the Tri City Icehawks for the 2008-2009 hockey season.
The Tri City Icehawks is a Junior Hockey franchise that will play in the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League, which includes teams that are located in Monroe, Flint, and suburban Detroit, as well as Chicago, Danville and Fairview, Illinois.
This team is a development Junior Hockey team, which has a goal of elevating players to Junior A or college-level hockey.
The Icehawks have announced that their general manager will be Steve Witt and their head coach, Jeff Worlton. Witt is a local business owner and has played in both the CSHL and NAHL. Worlton comes to the Icehawks after a stint as head coach of the Bradford Rattlers of the GMHL in Canada.
The team’s first time on the ice at the Midland Civic Arena will be May 21, with a drop-in skate from 7:30 - 8:50 p.m. All hockey players (with the birth years of 1988-1993) looking to take their hockey skills to the next level are invited to attend; the cost of this skate is $15. Coaches and staff will be on the ice to observe the local talent.
