TO RESERVE PICNIC SHELTERS AT MIDLAND PARKS

January 4, 2008 – To allow more time to plan special events, the City of Midland is trying something different this year for those interested in reserving a picnic shelter at selected parks in Midland. The Parks and Recreation Department will begin taking reservations in mid-January, as opposed to March, which was the practice in past years.

Shelters are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and fees are non-refundable.

Monday, January 14, 2008, City of Midland residents only may reserve shelters, in person, from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Midland Civic Arena, 405 Fast Ice Drive, located off Bay City Road between Rockwell and Waldo.

Beginning Tuesday, January 15, all patrons may reserve shelters by phone or in person at the Parks and Recreation office located in the Municipal Service Center, 4811 N. Saginaw Road or by calling 989-837-6930 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Non-refundable reservation fees for park shelters, which will help fund park maintenance and equipment, will be charged as follows:

Emerson Park (A-1) $25.00

Emerson Park (E) $25.00

Plymouth Park (B-2) $25.00

Plymouth Park (B-3) $25.00

Plymouth Park (A - South) $25.00

Plymouth Park (A - North) $25.00

Barstow Woods Park $25.00

Stratford Woods Park $25.00

Chippewassee Park $25.00

Emerson Park (D) $45.00

Plymouth Park (A - Entire shelter) $55.00

Unsheltered Areas $15.00

Addition of a Canopy $25.00

Delivery of Picnic Tables $25.00 (up to 10 tables)

Additional Tables $ 3.00 each (if available)

Donors of picnic shelters will be allowed one rent-free use per year in the shelter that they donated. In addition, in May and June only, daytime reservations that begin after 8:00 a.m. and end before 3:00 p.m. Monday – Friday are exempt from fees.

There are three shelters and five picnic areas in Emerson Park, three shelters and two picnic areas in Plymouth Park and one shelter each in Chippewassee Park, Barstow Woods Park, and Stratford Woods Park. Each shelter and picnic area has an electrical outlet and is serviced by nearby outdoor grills.
