CITY PERFORMS WATER MAIN FLUSHING

March 28, 2008 – The City of Midland will begin its annual water main flushing program Monday, March 31. Hydrants throughout the city will be systematically opened to clean and freshen the drinking water distribution system.

Water main flushing will begin in the southeast section of Midland and will proceed north, remaining east of Jefferson Avenue. Following completion of the east side of Midland, flushing west of Jefferson Avenue will commence in the southern section and again proceed north. The entire process should be completed in approximately eight weeks.

Water main flushing sometimes results in discolored water. While not harmful, tap water may appear orange in color for 5 to 15 minutes. Residents should avoid doing laundry while their water is discolored.

This annual maintenance program flushes water mains in an effort to ensure a high level of water quality by preventing corrosion and maintaining a proper disinfection residual.
