GRAND OPENING OF NEW BIKE LANES
SET FOR SEPTEMBER 11
August 27, 2010 – Grab your bike helmet and bike on down to the Tridge on Saturday, September 11 for a grand tour of new bike paths in the downtown Midland area.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at the base of the Tridge near the Farmers Market at 1 p.m., followed by bike tours along two new routes developed as part of the first phase of a multi-phase effort to make Midland more bike-friendly. The event will also feature drawings for door prizes from area merchants.
The Non-Motorized Transportation Committee – a subcommittee of the City of Midland Planning Commission – will sponsor member-led bike rides along the two stretches of roadway that recently underwent pavement markings and sign installation to aid bike enthusiasts in getting around the downtown district. The first route will traverse Ashman and Rodd streets between Nelson and Main streets near downtown Midland, and a second route will take bicyclists from the downtown area in a loop to the Midland Community Center and back.
