WINTER TAX DEADLINE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16
February 5, 2010 – The City of Midland reminds property owners that the
last day for payment of December 2009 taxes – without penalty
– is Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
Winter
tax bills may be paid by check or cash at the Midland City Treasurer's Office,
333 W. Ellsworth Street, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Credit cards are not accepted. After-hours
payments may be placed in the depository located inside the main entrance of
Midland City Hall.
If you are signed up for the
City’s Auto-Pay service, your taxes will be automatically withdrawn from the
bank account of your choosing on February 16, 2010.
Payments
received February 17 through March 1 will receive a four percent penalty
applied to the remaining balance.
On
March 2, the City turns delinquent real and special property taxes over to the
Midland County Treasurer. The County Treasurer
then assesses a four percent collection fee, or $1.00 minimum, plus interest of
one percent for each month of delinquency thereafter.
The
City bills and collects winter taxes on behalf of other local governments and
school districts as a service. The
winter tax bill does not include a tax levy for the City.
The total winter millage rate
on principal residence property in the city of Midland – within the Midland Public
Schools District – is 6.0668 mills; the total on non-principal residence
property is 14.5278 mills.
