FOURTH WARD
COUNCILMAN BRUCE JOHNSON
NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION
May 3, 2011 – After serving four terms on Midland City Council,
Fourth Ward Councilman Bruce Johnson has announced his intentions to not seek
re-election this November. Councilman
Johnson was first elected to council in 2003.
During his eight years of service to the fourth ward, Johnson served as
mayor pro-tem from 2003 through 2005 and mayor from 2005 through 2009.
The
deadline for filing a nominating petition for Midland City Council is Tuesday,
May 10 at 4 p.m. Nominating petitions are available at the Midland City Clerk’s
Office for persons interested in being elected to Midland’s City Council in
November.
To
qualify as a City Council candidate, you must be a registered voter in the city
of Midland and a resident of the ward in which you seek election for at least
one year.
Candidates
must file a nominating petition containing at least 20, but not more than 40,
valid signatures of registered voters of the ward from which they seek
election. Candidates must also complete
an Affidavit of Identity and Receipt of Filing with Campaign Finance Act
Compliance Statement. Nominating
Petitions and the Affidavit of Identity forms are available through the Midland
City Clerk’s Office (333 W. Ellsworth Street) and must be completed and
returned to the City Clerk’s Office by no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10.
A
Statement of Organization form must also be completed at the Midland County
Clerk’s Office, 220 W. Ellsworth Street.
If more than two nominating petitions
are received for any one ward, a primary election will be held on August 2 for
that ward only. The two persons
receiving the highest number of votes cast in the August Primary Election will
be placed on the November 8 ballot for their ward. The person receiving the highest number of
votes in the November election will be declared Council member for that
ward.
Members of the 2011-2013 City Council
will be sworn into office on Nov. 14 for a two-year term.
