CITY OF MIDLAND NAMES DIRECTOR OF PLANNING
January 20, 2012 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Brad Kaye has been
named Director of Planning and Community Development, effective Monday, February
20.
Kaye brings to the City 22
years of experience in planning and community development. For the past three years, he has served as Director
of Planning at the Charter Township of Garfield in Grand Traverse County. Among his responsibilities there, Kaye provided
administrative services and leadership to the township’s planning and community
development functions, including collaboration with neighboring Traverse City
on mutual planning-related interests.
Prior to his tenure at
Garfield, Kaye worked from 2000-2009 as a community planning consultant for Gourdie-Fraser, Inc. in Traverse City. In that capacity, he served as project manager
for various municipal and private sector clients in the preparation of master
plans, zoning ordinances, and code enforcement. Prior to joining Gourdie-Fraser,
Kaye was a senior planner for a municipality in Ontario, Canada for nine years.
Kaye holds a Bachelor’s
Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo and is a
certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.

problem-solving mindset, experience, and knowledge that will work well in
Midland,” said City Manager Jon Lynch.
Kaye was selected for the position following interviews with City
staff and representatives of the City’s Planning Commission, Midland Area
Homebuilders Association, and Midland Area Chamber of Commerce.
Among
his many responsibilities in Midland, Kaye will
manage the operations and budgets of the Department of Planning and Community
Development, which includes the Building, Community Development Block Grant,
Planning, and Senior Housing divisions. He will create and manage land use policy and
regulations; advise the public, developers,
and officials regarding plans, permits, and annexation procedures; and assist
with the development of annual and long-range
policy goals and capital improvement plans for the City.
