NEW MIDLAND POLICE CHIEF
ANNOUNCED
February 3, 2012 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Midland Police Department Captain in Charge Cliff Block has been named Chief of the 50-member police force, effective January 30.
Block, a 19-year member of the
force, served as Police Captain in Charge after former Police Chief Gerald Ladwig
retired in December 2011.
The City conducted a national search for the police department’s top post. Chief Block was selected following a comprehensive interview process involving community leaders and City staff.
“We conducted a very rigorous interview process, and found
that Cliff’s skills and experience make him best suited for the position,” said
City Manager Jon Lynch. “I’m confident he will help to further enhance
public safety in our community and bring an even higher level of sophistication
to police service delivery.”
Chief Block joined the department in 1993 as a Patrol Officer, a position he held until 1999, when he was promoted to Police Sergeant. He has also served as Lieutenant, Administrative Lieutenant, and – most recently – Police Captain.
The new chief completed the
Eastern Michigan University School of Police Staff and Command in 2001 and
attended the FBI National Academy Session #229 in 2007. He graduated from the University of
Michigan with a degree in computer science in 1991 and from the Oakland Police
Academy in 1992. He also has an
associate’s degree in criminal justice from Delta College and received a master’s
degree in public administration from Saginaw Valley State University in 2003.
