REMINDERS ABOUT PROPER
TRIMMING OF TREES AND SHRUBS
July 13, 2012 – Trees and shrubs that hang or jut into the path
of city sidewalks can be a safety hazard for pedestrians and bicyclists who use
the sidewalks.
For the sake of
safety, and in accordance with Section 26-43 of the City’s Code of Ordinances,
the City of Midland reminds residents to make sure the base of shrubs that
align the sidewalk be kept at least 12 inches back from the sidewalk. In addition, branches that are hanging over
the sidewalk path should be trimmed so they are flush with the inside edge of
the sidewalk. Tree limbs that overhang the sidewalk should be at least eight
feet above the sidewalk.
If bushes, trees, and shrubs are not trimmed according to these specifications within 10 days of notice, the City of Midland will conduct the trimming and bill the property owners accordingly.
Contact the
Department of Public Services at 989-837-6900 for additional information or to
report areas in need of trimming.
