MIDLAND CITY COUNCIL NOMINATING
PETITIONS AVAILABLE
January 25, 2013
–
Nominating petitions are available at the Midland City Clerk’s Office for
persons interested in being elected to Midland’s City Council in November. The deadline to submit petitions to be
considered for Council candidacy is 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 14.
Midland
is divided into five districts, called wards, and each of these wards elects a
City Council member every two years. To
qualify as a Council candidate, you must be a registered voter in the city of
Midland and a resident of the ward in which you seek election for at least one
year.
Candidates
must file a nominating petition containing at least 20, but not more than 40,
valid signatures of registered voters of the ward from which they seek
election. Candidates must also complete
an Affidavit of Identity and Receipt of Filing with Campaign Finance Act
Compliance Statement before May 14. Forms
are available through the Midland City Clerk’s Office (333 W. Ellsworth Street)
and must be completed and returned to the City Clerk’s Office by May 14.
A
Statement of Organization form must also be completed at the Midland County
Clerk’s Office, 220 W. Ellsworth Street.
If
more than two nominating petitions are received for any one ward, a primary
election will be held on August 6 for that ward only. The two persons receiving the highest number
of votes cast in the August Primary Election will be placed on the November 5
ballot for their ward. The person
receiving the highest number of votes in the November election will be declared
Council member for that ward.
Members of the 2013-2015 City Council
will be sworn into office on Nov. 11 for a two-year term.
