October 2, 2013 – Fire Prevention Week in Midland is October 6-12.  To help emphasize fire safety, the Midland Fire Department will hold its annual Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 12, 1-4 p.m.

Fire Station One, 816 E. Haley Street, is the location for this year’s open house.  During the event, young and old alike are welcome to enjoy refreshments, tour the fire station and view its equipment, learn how to plan for and practice fire escape, and view fire safety exhibits.  A drawing for a children’s bicycle is planned for the event.

Also during Fire Prevention Week, the department will join forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association to focus on this year’s theme, “Prevent Kitchen Fires.”  During this year's fire safety campaign, fire departments will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires – most of which result from unattended cooking – and how to prevent them.
